Things To Do

There is plenty to do on and around the Don Valley Way. You can walk a section, or all, of the 29 mile long trail, or you can do one of the 9 circular heritage walks that link to it. The trail and the circular walks take you past fabulous buildings providing reminders of the area’s industrial heritage, past beautiful nature reserves, a lake and even a castle. All the time you are close to the River Don and the associated Sheffield and South Yorkshire Navigation, with locks and boats to watch.

If you fancy something a bit different why not have a look at the geocaching page – can you find one of our salmon that are making their way upstream?

Access

Much of the trail is barrier free and on firm surfaces, providing access for all. If you are looking for somewhere to go for a walk with a pushchair or in a mobility scooter the Access page has the information you need.

Cycle

Approximately half of the trail is suitable for cycling. Much of it follows the Trans-Pennine Trail and is perfect for a family cycle ride on traffic free lanes and tracks.

Geocaching

The Don Valley Way is perfect for experienced and novice geocachers. We have created a series of caches along the length of the trail, designed to help our wonderful salmon trackables to navigate the river and back to the sea.
